History of Embroidery Cross Stitch
Cross-stitch is one of the oldest form of embroidery and it was spread throughout Europe in the 15th century. The designs were passed from generation to generation. In the late 18th century United States and Europe developed pattern books which inspired cross stitchers to work widely from ever-expanding pool of designs and motifs.
Cross stitch as the name suggested is a form of counted thread embroidery involving counting fabric threads. Stitches are often done on evenweave fabric which has easy-to-count threads. Cross-stitches are displayed on clearly marked symbols on charts which can also be counted. Each stitch is worked over the same number of threads to form a next X-shape. As a beginner you can follow the easy-to-follow charts and can even stitch designs that are perfect in every detail. Therefore cross stitch is the world’s most popular embroidery stitch.
